Mercedes Martínez is a research assistant in the Department of Social and Organizational Psychology of National University of Distance Education UNED (Spain) since February 2014. She has been working with Angel Gómez’s team on Identity Fusion Theory, and specifically with Elena Gaviria and Carolina Ferreira in exploring how and when identity fusion develops in childhood (Gaviria, Ferreira, Martínez & Whitehouse (under review). “Identity and the developmental origins of fusion: an exploratory approach”. Revista de Psicología Social). Mercedes is currently a research assistant in “Sociometric Badges, Threat & Identity Fusion Study” international project, carrying out data collection and organization. Her research interests are identity fusion and its relation to Social Identity Theory, as well as relationships between groups and their implications for people within the groups themselves.
